Sensory explorations in Bresse jurassienne

9:00 - Walking around the ponds
With good walking shoes, binoculars and anti-mosquito lotion (especially during summertime), have a walk on the “Étang Vaillant, du Crêt et du Fort” path, in Chapelle-Voland (4km, easy). Make use of the various observation points to fully benefit from the sights and sounds of the early morning fauna.


11:30 - Sample the products of a Fish Farm
Meet Christine Roubez in the village of Pleure. Give her a phone call before going there just to make sure she is free to welcome you ((+33 0)3 84 81 47 26). You will really enjoy it!


Lunch break – Picnic at the edge of Commenailles pond
Picnic tables are on site. Have a short nap in the shade!


15:00 - Visit the Château d’Arlay
Let’s dive into the heart of history: self- or guided tour of the castle and its romantic park. As a nature-lover or fan of old buildings, you will be captivated.


18:00 - Thirst-quenching tasting
Discover the traditional Brasserie Rouget de Lisle in Bletterans, which offers organic beers and offers a nod or two to our region. These beers are different from those of the north! 

 

     

 

Breath-taking Reculée of Baume-les-Messieurs

9:30 - Small and surprising villages
Before discovering the famous Reculée of Baume-les-Messieurs, take the time to have a look at its neighbours: the Reculées of Blois-sur-Seille and Ladoye-sur-Seille, which two lovely and neighbouring villages with a rich local heritage (cable car for milk, mills, fountains, bridges…).


10:30 - Guided tour of the Caves
Classified as one of the most spectacular caves in Europe with its amazing geological formations, it covers over 2500 metres s, most of which is accessible to visits. Do not forget you woolly pullover, it is only 11 degrees inside. 


11:30 - Photographing the “Cascade de tuf”
A source called « Le Dard » springs out of the caves and hurtles down the Tuf waterfall, which supports a variety of lifeforms. The water pressure depends on the seasons, but photographs are a must at anytime!

14:00 - The imperial Abbey tour
This simple monastery church from the IXth century has become an abbey of great reknown. It was from here in 909 that Abbot Bernon and a few of his monks went on to found Cluny Abbey.. The Abbey church exhibits many centuries of architectural styles and contains a rich and diverse collection of religious furniture.


15:30 - Discover Parc Jurafaune
Here you will find a discovery path about fauna and flora, shows of flying birds of prey, games area, exhibitions… It is a perfect place for spending some time with the family and improving everyone’s knowledge about nature.


17:00 - The perfect ending at viewpoints
Two viewpoints offer you unexpected landscapes: Granges-sur-Baume which overlooks the Abbey and is just next to an artisan cheesemaker. And Crançot which overlooks the caves end of the reculee, and is close to the very agreeable terrace of a hotel/restaurant.

 

 

 

 

 

Tackling Château-Chalon and its vineyard

9:00 - Hiking in the vineyards
There are many hiking trails in the vineyards. Here are two suggestions of between 5 and10 kilometres: Leaving from Lavigny, climb up to the pretty little chapel of Notre-Dame de la Salette, in order to enjoy the beautiful view. Leave from Voiteur or Château-Chalon, cross the classified vineyard passing through our typical villages. These hikes are on our walking map, on sale at the Tourist Office (5€).


11:30 - Taste the yellow gold of the Jura
From vineyard to glass…! After being immersed in its “terroir”, the time has come to taste the famous Vin Jaune. Find a wine-maker’s cellar and attempt to unveil the mystery of this surprising nectar. Our partner wine-makers’ addresses.

14:00 - Visit Château-Chalon village
Classified among the “Petites Citées Comtoises” and “Plus Beaux Villages de France” (like Baume-les-Messieurs), the medieval and wine-growing atmosphere is enchanting. Built on a rocky spur, Château-Chalon also offers beautiful viewpoints over the valley and the vineyards.


15:00 - Visit the « Maison de la Haute Seille » museum
Interactive museum about the area, this place is perfect for all members of family: thematic boards, audio or movie documentaries, exhibitions, games for children, shop… In addition, take the time to enjoy the exceptional view from its terrace or garden!


16:00 - Visit the old school
This reconstructed1920’s classroom evokes sweet memories for many of its visitors… The black board, the desks, the inkwells, the large planispheres, the smocks, the wood-burner… everything is as it was. Treat yourself: take down the dictation of a moral lesson whilst writing with a quill pen! 


17:00 - Detour by Frontenay
Situated at 6 kilometres from Château-Chalon, Frontenay and its castle invite quiet contemplation. A tour of around 1 kilometre reveals a tiny cave (a Notre-Dame de Lourde miniature), a superb alley of lime trees path and to finish, a wonderful sunset from the castle courtyard.

11:00 - Go shopping in the old Lons-le-Saunier
Looking for a gift or a treat? Discover the Rue du Commerce with its 146 XVIIIth century arches and all the lovely little shops, some of which are over a-hundred-year-old.

On the run, seated, on a terrace, traditional or gourmet cooking: see all possibilities.


14:30 - Wellness or heritage
Enjoy the thermal salt water at the Spa Lédonia (rue de Pavigny) or visit one of our museums (Musée des Beaux Art, Rouget de Lisle’s birth place).


17:00 - Afternoon tea
It is also the moment to taste the Lons-le-Saunier specialities (home-made ices, pastries, chocolates…). Why not try them in the “Parc des Bains”?!


17:30 - A bit of exercise?
Are you a town or country person? Choose one of the activities of the 10-55 (activities centre) or go for a spot of tree climbing at the Plateau de Montciel.


20:00 - Out on the town!
Have dinner in one of our restaurants with different atmospheres and terraces for summer (page…), and then participate in summer events in the city-centre, go to a dance at the “Guinguette” (open-air dance hall) in the park and try your luck at the Casino.

From heritage to the stars

10:00 - The Saint-Étienne-de-Coldres church and hermitage in Briod
Park your car in front of the church of Saint-Étienne-de-Coldres and have a walk in its romantic and charmingly old fashioned cemetery. Then, follow the path down and discover a preserved place: the hermitage. In 1605, Claude Rollin built this peaceful place to thank the hermit for his prayers.

Picnic there or in a restaurant. Take a lunch in one of our many partners’ restaurants or picnic at the hermitage where there are tables and benches available. 


14:00 - Play knight at the Chateau du Pin!
It is a medieval castle from the XIIIth century (for its oldest parts), with a very beautiful tower and a Renaissance apartment from which it looks out over the old Salt Route.


15:30 - Tasting the L’Étoile AOC
Taste exceptional white wines, where only the Savagnin and Chardonnay grape varieties are cultivated. Also, search for small fossilized stars, called “pentacrines” in the soil. A fun game!


17:00 - A little stroll on the “voie verte”
Parking at the Courlans old train station: by bike, by foot or with roller skates, cross an outstanding viaduct hundreds of metres long that dominates the Lons-le-Saunier plain.
